Songkran Festival

The Songkran festival is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia.

The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed. If these days fall on a weekend, the missed days off are taken on the weekdays immediately following. Songkran falls in the hottest time of the year in Thailand, at the end of the dry season.

The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the throwing of water upon others.

People also celebrating Songkran as a Buddhist festival may also go to a Buddhist monastery to pray and give food to monks. They may also cleanse Buddha images from household shrines as well as Buddha images at monasteries by gently pouring water mixed with a Thai fragrance over them.

The throwing of water originated as a way to pay respect to people, by capturing the water after it had been poured over the Buddhas for cleansing and then using this "blessed" water to give good fortune to elders and family by gently pouring it on the shoulder.

Behavior: Wasps are a type of insect in the Hymenoptera family, along with bees. There are many different species of wasps, and each has its own distinct behavior. The major families of wasps include the paper wasps, potter wasps, thread-waisted wasps, mud daubers, yellow jackets and hornets. While each kind of wasp is a little different, they do have a few behavioral traits in common.

Discovered Place: Hup Pa Tard limestone cavern in Thailand, within the Greater Mekong

Behavior: It becomes gregarious after rain showers. The millipede has glands that produce hydrogen cyanide to protect it from predators. (It's toxin. So be careful.)

Review : OneRepublic - Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges is from the album "Native" released in March, 2013. It was wirtten by the members Ryan Tedder (vocal/guitar/piano) and Brent Kutzle (bass/back vocal). It's a slow song which is appropriate if you want to chilled out with 4.17 minutes length. The melody tells us to know the pain when you must cut the reletionship with your love. It's painful.

Loi Krathong (also written as Loy Krathong is a festival celebrated annually throughout Thailand and certain parts of Loas and Burma . The name could be translated "Floating Crown" or "Floating Decoration", and comes from the tradition of making buoyant decorations which are then floated on a river.

Loi means 'to float', while krathong refers to a usually lotus-shaped container which floats on the water. Krathong has no other meaning in Thai besides these decorative floats, so Loi Krathong is very hard to translate, requiring a word describing what a Krathong looks like such as Floating Crown, Floating Boat, Floating Decoration. The traditional krathong are made of the layers of the trunk of a banana tree or a spider lilyplant. Modern krathongs are more often made of bread or styrofoam. A bread krathong will disintegrate after a few days and can be eaten by fish. Banana stalk krathong are also biodegradable, but styrofoam krathongs are sometimes banned, as they pollute the rivers and may take years to decompose. A krathong is decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, incense sticks, and a candle. A small coin is sometimes included as an offering to the river spirits. On the night of the full moon, Thais launch their krathong on a river, canal or a pond, making a wish as they do so. The festival may originate from an ancient ritual paying respect to the water spirits.
